Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy
EFFECTIVE 2025

Bali Tourism Journal recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and large language model (LLM) tools in academic writing. In alignment with COPE guidelines and emerging international standards, the journal adopts the following policy to ensure transparency, accountability, and research integrity in the use of AI technologies.

Permitted Use of AI
Grammar checking and language proofreading (e.g., Grammarly, DeepL)
Paraphrasing and improving readability of author-generated text
Translation assistance, provided the author verifies accuracy
Literature search and reference management support
Data visualization and figure formatting tools

Prohibited Use of AI
AI-generated text submitted as original research or ideas of the author
Using AI to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data or results
Listing AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) as co-authors or contributors
Using AI to write the Discussion, Conclusion, or Interpretation sections
Concealing the use of AI tools in manuscript preparation
Mandatory AI Declaration

Authors who use any AI or AI-assisted tools during manuscript preparation are required to disclose this in the Methods section or in a dedicated AI Declaration statement. The declaration must specify:

The name and version of the AI tool(s) used (e.g., ChatGPT-4o, Grammarly, DeepL)

The specific purpose for which the tool was used (e.g., grammar correction, translation)

Confirmation that all AI-generated content was reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors
Example Declaration

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used ChatGPT-4o (OpenAI) for grammar correction and language improvement. The AI-generated suggestions were reviewed and verified by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the integrity of the content. No AI tool was used to generate research data, analysis, or conclusions."

Failure to disclose AI usage may result in manuscript rejection or retraction after publication. Authors bear sole responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of all content, including any AI-assisted portions.

Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts are screened using Turnitin prior to peer review. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding the acceptable threshold will be immediately rejected without review. Authors found to have submitted previously published work will be permanently banned from submitting future manuscripts, and their funding body and institution will be formally notified.

Retraction & Correction Policy

If a published article is found to contain significant errors, data fabrication, or ethical violations — including undisclosed AI-generated content — the editorial board reserves the right to issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines. Retracted articles remain visible online with a clear retraction notice.
